Project Space Reflection
The place I chose for Project Space is the Highland Park Theater located in Highland Park in Northeast Los Angeles. The reason I chose this place is because I have been familiar with this theater since I was a child. All my family lives in Highland Park and I grew up here. I consider this area as my second home. Everyone who lives in Highland Park is knows about this theater and the significance of it. The Highland Park Theater is considered to be a historic monument in Highland Park. What interested me about this place is the fact that it’s a vintage cinema that goes back to the 1930s. Anything to do with that era catches my attention I like learning about the past and how different everything was. The main reason I chose this theater is because I have a personal connection to it. I remember attending this theater when I was five years old. I watched Tarzan and Titanic here. I share a lot of good memories with this place and I can truly say the Highland Park Theater is part of my childhood.
Throughout this essay I can say my writing process has changed in some ways. In this essay I use first person point of view and uses my senses more to describe the place I visited. I feel that with this essay I am more creative and expressive with my writing. For example I talk about the importance of this theater and how it has impacted my life. I started this essay with the help of my field report I incorporated those notes into my essay. I can say I did procrastinate a little because sometimes I feel I have so much to do and little time but I didn’t procrastinate as much as I did with Project Web. The easiest part of this process was being able to connect with this place. The most difficult was describing how the Highland Park community connects to this place because everyone is connects to this theater differently.

The place I visited was the Highland Park Theater in Highland Park. I went on Saturday to watch a movie with my cousins. This theater is old and has a vintage cinema look to it. Personally I like how it looks but some people may judge it by an old cheap looking theater but for me its much more. Every time I come here I feel like I take a trip back to the 1960s. From the outside this theater looks small, old, and cheap. It’s located in Figueroa Street and Avenue 50th really close to where my family lives. I enjoy going to this theater because I have known this theater since I was a child. The day I went to visit this theater flashbacks came to my mind. I have a lot of good old memories in this place. I remember the first time going I was five years old and watched Tarzan. This is the reason why I chose this place because even if by its appearance maybe misjudged by others this place has a deep meaning to me and to the Highland Park community.
As I walked in the theater I recognize the same employees who have been working in this theater for years and always look mad for some reason. I guess because they are tired of the same routine and seeing the same people. The person who stands out is the popcorn guy with his gothic look and tattoos. The look on his face seems as if he’s saying “I hate my job“. Even if the service isn’t that good I enjoy being here. I get hungry with the smell of butter, popcorn, and greasy hot dogs. So I decide to buy a hot dog and looks can be deceiving because that hot dog looks kind of simple and greasy but its so delicious that even the last bite is so good. The popcorn is dry and only taste good with butter and cheddar powder. I also buy a large soda that feels refreshing after eating too much dry popcorn. Once we enter the theater to watch the movie we sit in the middle like always this theater gets full and fast. This reminded me when I came with my friends to watch TED and the theater was so packed we had to sit on the floor. This didn’t even annoy me at all. As soon as the movie starts people quite down since we saw the Last Exorcism there was a lot of screaming and then some laughing. People get really into the movie that I can feel the suspense. After the movie ends some people clap which shows that are satisfied a clap too. This isn’t something different almost all the times I been here there are people who even cheer after the movie ends. My reaction to this is positive I feel that they are thankful and it doesn’t matter where you saw the movie.
When I went to visit the theater I saw a lot of people of different ages ready to enjoy a cheap movie since in this theater the price to watch a movie is only four dollars and on Tuesdays three dollars. I saw families, friends, and couples. Almost everyone that goes to this theater lives in Highland Park and everyone that lives here knows about this theater. This theater provides a space for entertainment and unity at a pretty good price. Even though its not a fancy theater a lot of people enjoy going here because its cheap and its local. Every time I go to Highland Park I always end up going to the theater. You can tell who knows this theater because you can see the comfort in their eyes. I can sense their memories in this theater. I also noticed the people who it may be their first time in this theater they act more surprised when they find out how much it is to watch a movie and they tend to talk a lot about how Highland Park is such a urban area. The way I can distinguish these people is because Highland Park is mostly made up of Latinos and not that much white people.
Highland Park Theater welcomes anyone from anywhere its just not only for the people in the Highland Park Community. I have brought friends here who really liked this theater that they have brought their family here too. The service may not be good but you are getting your moneys worth. I think outsiders do feel welcome in this theater because its accessible to anyone and especially since its cheap anyone can randomly decide to go watch a movie. I have seen people just passing by they ask how much and decide to go in. There isn’t so much thought or planning put into it. People attend this theater as a routine. For example every weekend I visit my family in Highland Park we always end up going to the theater. This theater maybe old, cheap, and vintage but I prefer going here than a fancy theater because I have so many good memories here and I know I am not the only one who shares those memories but also the people who are part of the Highland Park community.

Project Web: Cyber-Bullying
Cyber-bullying is bullying through the use of electronic technology such as cell-phones and computers. People are being bullied through text messages and social networks. The common victims of cyber-bullying are children, teenagers, and young adults. The difference of cyber-bullying and physical bullying is that cyber-bullying can become a cycle happening 24 hours 7 days a week. It can occur anywhere and at anytime. Physical bullying can occur in school but then stops when the individual is safe at home. Cyber-bullying continues at home and the victim hardly ever feels safe. Cyber-Bullying through social networks can lead to teenagers committing suicide because they are constantly being attacked and unfortunately they feel their only escape is by ending their own lives. In order to prevent cyber-bullying there should be an awareness of what teenagers are doing online and an establishment of technology rules in social networks.
Cyber-bullying is very common in social networks such as Face book. This social network has become a gateway for people to attack others through the internet and not in person. It’s easier to attack someone through Face book with out receiving any consequences. Cyber-bullying can start with name calling such as rude comments that eventually hurt the victims feelings. People are taking advantage of Face book in negative ways by putting others down and not realizing they are actually creating emotional damage. Cyber-bullying through social networks than get out of hand and leads to physical aggression where the victim is being bullied at school and also at home. Eventually this person feels like the whole world is against them and decides to commit suicide in order to stop their suffering.
This is how cyber-bullying starts in social networks and then directs into physical aggression. Todd changes schools after schools but her torment wouldn't come to its end. Sadly she suffered from depression and anxiety disorders that triggered her to abuse drugs and alcohol. In her video Todd mentions her attempts to commit suicide and how she is “struggling to stay in this world“. Unfortunately a month after posting the video Amanda Todd commits suicide by hanging herself in her house. This proves that cyber-bullying leads to teenagers committing suicide. Todd was constantly being attacked through social network sites and at school. She never felt safe and tried anything to end this painful cycle. For Todd her only escape was through committing suicide.
Cyber-bullying is what lead Todd to take her own life and its sad that the whole world found out when it was too late. Shockingly this is still happening in social networks such as face book which are meant to be used to connect with friend and family, but are being used negatively to hurt others. “The primary cyber-bullying location where victimizing occurs, at 56%, is in chat rooms.”( maskmatters.org) In order to prevent cyber-bullying is to first become aware of what is going on. What are teenagers up to in face book? Who are they talking to? These are questions parents and guardians should be thinking about and be able to figure out. Face book is a huge social network that connects over one billion people from around the world. People can basically talk to anyone and anywhere. That is why its possible teenagers can be talking to strangers who are “bad people” and have the wrong intentions. In Todd’s case she was being attacked by a man who created a face book account using her personal photo. This shows how face book can be used for almost anything and there should be some type of awareness that there is “bad people” who can do damage. “
There should also be an establishment of rules in social network sites. Face book is still very popular but the rules aren't good enough. People can upload almost anything without receiving any consequences. There should be more strict rules for example people shouldn't be allowed to hurt or put down others and if they do they should get banned out of face book. Rude comments targeting a certain group or person should not be tolerated. People should have the right to defend themselves in a non violent matter and stop these “unknown” cyber-bullies. Cyber-bullying may never stop but it should be prevented from getting of hand and destroying someone’s life where they feel their only escape is death. Lets help end cyber-bullying and safe a person before its too late. Amanda Todd and Phoebe Prince were dying silently and the world finally listened when it was too late.

In order for me to reach my ideal completed project I need to analyze my research and relate it to my topic I also need to be able to incorporate my research into my essay. I want to be able to sound credible and persuasive through out my essay.
